Best puppetry websites of 2011
Last year I started handing out website awards to fab puppetry sites I liked and thought worth singling out for a mention. (Here’s last year’s list) Then I decided to split my website in two, and the monthly awards fell to the wayside. However, I think it’s very much worth continuing, but in a slightly better manner; a top five list of puppetry sites that have inspired me over the past year.

Puppetry award available in 2012 - worldwide entrants sought
The Arlyn Award Society is seeking applicants for their 2012 award for outstanding puppet theatre design. It’s open to people of all countries, so it’s worth checking out! (Be warned though, the website is hard to navigate. Only on certain pages do other menu links appear, so be sure to have a browse if you can’t find the info you’re looking for) Those wishing to apply must have performed their work/s in 2010 or 2011, and entrants must submit a brief of the designer’s goals, up to 10 illustrations or photographs and a maximum of five minutes of video. Deadline: 15 February 2012. Download the pdf announcement for more information on how to apply, and so on.

More puppetry events and opportunities, Aug/Sept 2011
On Monday I got the latest issue of OPEN and it was so chock full of good stuff that I can’t help but repost the whole issue; there’s simply no reason for me to copy and paste the whole thing. There’s also an interesting update today from UNIMA Australia, about the birthday celebrations of Punch and Judy taking place in the UK next year. Details as follows:

Puppetry events in July 2011
I’ve missed some of the July school holiday events, but hopefully a few of you out there will be able to make the following upcoming Aussie events. There are a couple of international festivals coming up later in the year too, along with a - very short notice - puppet film opportunity from South Africa.

Story Time on New Zealand TV - updated info
Last time I posted about Story Time (Australian-made kids’ show), it was heading to Canada. Now I have updated info on the New Zealand airing dates: it will be shown on Channel North, on Wednesdays and Fridays at 3pm. You can also now get the Tall Ted book from Itunes as an app. As always, you can find a short promo of the show below.
