Puppetry events, Feb 2012
Once again it’s time to update you with news about Australian puppetry events: and once again I find myself simply posting the OPEN pdf file, since it has all the news conveniently written for me.
In it you will find updates about the Tarrengower Puppet Festival, which I’ve mentioned below anyway along with other non-OPEN news; the Melbourne Indigenous Arts Festival; performances by Dream Puppets and Richard Bradshaw in Victoria.

Puppetry events & opportunities, Dec 2011-Jan 2012
Earlier this week I mentioned updates on new festivals in Australia for puppetry: contained here is more news about that, plus an audition opportunity for King Kong, upcoming performances, and other things. While I’m here, I’ll also let people know that the Tarrengower Puppetfest website (more info here) has been updated to include price listings. All the info summarised above has been sent out via OPEN, so instead of re-posting it all, I’ve simply uploaded
the pdf newsletter.
In it you will find all the info about the 2012 fourth National Puppetry & Animatronics Summit, including info on how to submit for presentation slots; info about how to apply for the aforementioned audition; shows in WA, VIC, and SA (the latter for the Adelaide Fringe Festival); and a few big announcements from a number of local puppetry companies.

Best puppetry websites of 2011
Last year I started handing out website awards to fab puppetry sites I liked and thought worth singling out for a mention. (Here’s last year’s list) Then I decided to split my website in two, and the monthly awards fell to the wayside. However, I think it’s very much worth continuing, but in a slightly better manner; a top five list of puppetry sites that have inspired me over the past year.

Puppetry events and opportunities, Nov 2011
In today’s update we have some shows happening in West Australia and Victoria; news about the forthcoming Tarrengower Puppet Festival; and updates on next year’s Puppet Palace, as part of Adelaide’s Fringe Festival, has some fab international acts coming our way. There’s a job opening in WA, and some UNIMA International news, including an update on the Chengdu 2012 festival.

Animatronics in Queensland, Nov 2011 - Jan 2012
I’ll have some holiday themed puppetry tutorials online in the next couple of weeks, but in the meantime, here’s some more news about John Cox Creature Workshop. Their exhibit How to Make a Monster, featuring their animatronics, will be running once again at the Pine Rivers Heritage Museum, Queensland. Entry is free and the exhibition will run from 05 November 2011 – 29 January 2012.

I am looking for a crocheted hand puppet pattern that is NOT a finger puppet. I made them when my children were little and now want to make them for my grandchildren. They fit on your hand similar to a mitten, with a mouth to open and close. I have a zebra, frog and tiger. I am going to try to make up a pattern from the original puppets, but it sure would be simpler to have the pattern! Thanks!
