Audition for Warhorse and news about Summit

Like I said last week, more Aussie puppetry news is coming out of the woodworks than ever. And it hasn’t stopped: Australian puppeteers are invited to audition for the award-winning Warhorse by South African Handspring Puppet Company. They’ll be touring the show here in 2013 and are looking for both men and women; however, auditionees will be required to come to Melbourne to try out. You can find out how to apply in this .pdf file (note: no closing date for applications was given, so please contact them for more info).

As for the Summit, those on the mailing list have gotten some more info which I thought I’d share. This .pdf file includes more info about the program (incl. presentations by Richard Bradshaw among other things!), but for those interested in attending I’ll post the juicy bits:

...

@Jackie Unfortunately 'w' isn't a lot to go on. How about you tell me what kind of puppet you're trying to make? As the article says, there's no limit to the types of different materials you can use, so narrowing it down is pretty hard without more info. The only thing I can think of off the top of my head is 'wood'. But that can be used for anything... Like I said, best to narrow down the type of puppet you're trying to make and then I could give you some suggestions.

@Julie,

Yes, you can find patterns for those puppets here or here.

Use “grab the complete pattern” links to make your purchase – you’ll be sent to Paypal, where you can buy using your credit card or a Paypal account if you have one. Alternatively, you could find lots of good puppetry books at Amazon. I have some recommendations here.

I assume that’s the type of puppet you’re referring to, you can actually make a lot of different things using foam, as explained here.

If you have any more questions, please let me know.
