Once again it’s time to update you with news about Australian puppetry events: and once again I find myself simply posting the OPEN pdf file, since it has all the news conveniently written for me.
In it you will find updates about the Tarrengower Puppet Festival, which I’ve mentioned below anyway along with other non-OPEN news; the Melbourne Indigenous Arts Festival; performances by Dream Puppets and Richard Bradshaw in Victoria.

More new puppet companies added (plus a show in Jan)
Last week I got a couple of emails from local puppetry companies that hadn’t been listed on the site yet. And so I have remedied that, as well as added a couple more sites while I’m here. I’ve added them all to the ‘links’ page, as well as the list of puppetry companies in Australia, the list of courses for puppetry, and the list of puppet sellers. They are as follows:
- Mr Arthur’s Puppets
- Marianne Mettes (as mentioned in my ‘best puppet sites of 2011‘ post), and her business website, PuppetOOdle
- Queensland Theatre of Puppetry
- and Horizon Theatre
Speaking of Horizon, they have a performance on in January that I thought I’d mention here since tomorrow is officially holidays. Horizon will be performing My Alien Adventure at Sidetrack Theatre, 142 Addison Rd, Marrickvile (NSW), from 12th-16th Jan 2012. Tickets, $12 and $15. Puppetry events & opportunities, Dec 2011-Jan 2012
Earlier this week I mentioned updates on new festivals in Australia for puppetry: contained here is more news about that, plus an audition opportunity for King Kong, upcoming performances, and other things. While I’m here, I’ll also let people know that the Tarrengower Puppetfest website (more info here) has been updated to include price listings. All the info summarised above has been sent out via OPEN, so instead of re-posting it all, I’ve simply uploaded
the pdf newsletter.
In it you will find all the info about the 2012 fourth National Puppetry & Animatronics Summit, including info on how to submit for presentation slots; info about how to apply for the aforementioned audition; shows in WA, VIC, and SA (the latter for the Adelaide Fringe Festival); and a few big announcements from a number of local puppetry companies.

Where to find puppetry festivals in Australia?
There have been a number of new festivals created for 2012, so I thought it would be a good idea to rewrite this article as much of the info was outdated. Included below are two brand new Australian puppetry festivals which are set to be premiered in 2012.
Although puppetry is not well recognised in this country, there are festivals that specifically celebrate the craft. They are few and far between though, and most have fallen by the wayside for a variety of reasons. The ones that do exist now are both for puppetry education/discussion (ie. for puppeteers, by puppeteers) and for the general public. (This post refers mainly to festivals; if you’re looking specifically for companies or puppet shows, check out this post instead/as well as)

Puppetry events and opportunities, Nov 2011
In today’s update we have some shows happening in West Australia and Victoria; news about the forthcoming Tarrengower Puppet Festival; and updates on next year’s Puppet Palace, as part of Adelaide’s Fringe Festival, has some fab international acts coming our way. There’s a job opening in WA, and some UNIMA International news, including an update on the Chengdu 2012 festival.
This is amazing! I know that the Hanoi Water Puppet Show will be at Harnes, in France (250km to the North of Paris) from June 4th to June 9th, 2011.
