What's the difference between a muppet and a puppet?

Absolutely nothing. This is like asking "what’s the difference between a poodle and a dog?" Think about it - a poodle is a dog, but not all dogs are poodles. So a muppet is simple to figure out: it’s a type of puppet (usually placed under the category of ‘mouth puppets’). Not all puppets are muppets though, and not all mouth puppets are muppets.

...

@Carl, Jim Henson used muppets - not finger puppets, there is a difference - but amazingly enough he just used scrap fabrics. Kermit was made out of an old house coat.

What you probably want to know is what materials you should use to make your own, and what materials puppeteers use to make them 'professionally'. That would be a fabric called 'antron fleece'.

You can find information about where to purchase antron fleece, and what it is here.

You can find info about other types of materials used in making muppet-types here:
here.

Hope that helps!

I like how you have both the video and the gallery. The video shows the movements better, while the gallery shows the scale better.

Thanks - although I'm not sure whether you mean my gallery or Black Hole's. Either way, I'm glad you like the combination; I'm glad I remembered it because actually their show is pretty much what I always think of when talking about table-top puppetry. Their miniature sets are amazing too! :) As for my stuff, I wish I had a better video. I do believe the video is from our preview, which wasn't as good as the finished show. Therefore there are a lot of arms visible and stuff.
