@Dom, Great to hear you've seen the puppets - I've only seen them in a couple of collectibles shops. As the article says, wayang golek tend to be sold as tourist items, so it doesn't surprise me that on occasion they would end up in a local shop or two. What did you mean by "emailing it to me"? Do you have a photo?

... School of Puppetry on What is wayang golek?

Hi I am looking for someone in Brisbane to fix our marionnet puppet. The strings have become extremely tangled so we need him 'restrung' and hopefully be able to obtain a stand for him to stand on rather than on a wall (which obviously doesn't work). Please let me know if you know of anyone in brisbane near the CBD who may be able to do this. Manythanks

@ Amanda,

If you haven't already, I recommend reading this article.

(I’m currently moving articles from one site to another, which is why you wouldn’t have found it on School of Puppetry)

The short answer is: I’m not aware of anyone in particular who offers puppet repair as a specific service. Your best bet is to contact UNIMA Australia (www.unima.org.au), the centre for Australian puppetry, and see if they can pass on your request to their members.

Sorry I can’t help further, but this is all I have been able to find out about local repairers.
